Obama discusses sunk ship with South Korean leader

President Barack Obama has spoken with the president of South Korea to discuss issues including the sinking of a South Korean navy ship near the border with North Korea.

The Cheonan went down in the Yellow Sea in March, killing 46 South Korean sailors. Seoul has not directly blamed North Korea, and Pyongyang has denied involvement. Suspicion, however, has focused on the North.

The White House said that Obama and South Korean President Lee Myong-bak committed Monday night to a full investigation and that Obama reaffirmed that the U.S. is strongly committed to the defense of South Korea.

They also discussed the need for North Korea to live up to its commitments to nuclear disarmament. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton is to visit Seoul next week for talks.
